Lesson 1 Learn more Spanish 9/4/14
Today it was time to pack up and leave Santiago and move on to Valparaiso. This meant catching a train on the subway and getting off down the line at the main National bus terminal.
This seemed like an easy task. We had used the Subway countess times while in Santiago and so felt confident on this part of the journey. It also seemed easy to get the bus.........travel blogs had stated "just get off at Santa Bora and catch one of the many buses to Valpraiso!!" How hard could it be?
When we arrived at Santa Bora we were shocked to see before us a plethora of ticket booths (around 70) all selling tickets to different parts of the country and all representing different bus companies. We decided on a random booth with our request of tickets and were pointed to another booth, then another booth and then another booth. This went on for quite some time and most of the time we had no idea what staff were saying and they had no idea what we were saying. It was like a game of charades gone wrong. Finally after a lot of waving of hands, pointing and mumbling we worked out that we needed to make our way to the next station where all the buses for Valparaiso departed.
LESSON : We are now more determined than ever to improve our Spanish.
